A turbulent week for markets

Posted by fairval on March 3, 2007

Suddenly risk is back in the investing equation, so suggest any coverage of emerging markets in the last week. EPFR says emerging markets saw a net outflow for the 2nd time this year (on a weekly basis). This is what EPFR’s release says

Flows into EPFR-tracked funds during the final week of February again reflected the increased risk aversion evident among equity investors since the beginning of the year, a trend that is likely to gain further impetus from the rout of global stock markets going into March. Investors pulled money out of Emerging Market Equity Funds, amounting to $615 million, for only the second time this year after flows had slowed in recent weeks.

With risk aversion climbing, and also spreading to the fixed income universe, Asia ex-Japan Equity Funds were the only one of the major emerging markets fund groups to post net inflows for the week.

Asia didnt do too bad, it appears
